One of the best parts about running Gypsy Found Objects, according to owner Donnetta Galloway, is being able to offer her customers clothes in a huge range of styles and fashions from multiple eras. She notes that in traditional retail, owners have to buy sets from manufacturers, which can run into thousands of pieces, but her approach of mixing everything together allows her to be far more selective. “Mixing old with new, I think, has always been important,” she says, “because that way, you can get your own style.”
Instead of being beholden to one particular brand or season, Donnetta’s customers can customize their wardrobes to perfectly represent their personalities. It’s something she’s consistently practised with every shop she's owned, whether it was a costumier in Stratford or a bridal shop with custom-designed, period-inspired pieces. And when she opened Gypsy Found Objects during Salsa on St. Clair weekend in 2012, she knew keeping the choice in her customers’ hands was going to be her priority.
