The RM of Lorne is located in the south central part of Manitoba in the agricultural zone of Canada.  Lorne is bordered on the east by the Pembina Hills, on the north and west by the Tiger Hills, and on the south by the Pembina Valley.  The Rural Municipality of Lorne is a picturesque region of gentle, rolling hills, and a patchwork of some of the most fertile fields in Manitoba.   The administrative office is located at 307 3rd Street in Somerset, Manitoba.

What Our District Is All HistoryThe Pembina Valley Conservation District (PVCD) was officially established by Order In Council (cabinet resolution) on October 2, 1989, after four years of negotiations between local municipalities. The original members were the Rural Municipalities of Lorne, Louise, Pembina and Thompson; they have since been joined by the villages/towns of Crystal City, Manitou, Pilot Mound, Cartwright and Morden (2007) and the RM of Roblin (1997) and the RM of Stanley (2003). Pembina Valley was the sixth CD to be formed in Manitoba since 1972, there have since been twelve more additions.The primary reasons for forming the Pembina Valley Conservation District involved concerns with the loss of valuable topsoil through wind and water erosion in the area. Water shortages for local farmers, and erosion of municipal roads, have also been persistent problems. Portage Transport Inc. will strive to provide excellent service to its customers, create a balanced working environment for its employees, make a social difference locally and globally and be financially successful. In 1998 Portage Transport Service, owned and operated by the late Robert Gallagher of Oakville and Ron Johnson of Winnipeg, had a terminal in Winnipeg and in Portage la Prairie. Its main purpose was to be a freight courier service linking Winnipeg to Portage la Prairie, Brandon, Dauphin and all points between. Freight came into Winnipeg from all over the world via many large carriers and many modes of transportation. Freight was gathered by the Winnipeg terminal and shipped to the Portage terminal twice each day. It was then distributed between Portage and *West* trucks and brought to the customer, often the same day.
