The Powell River Regional District (PRRD) is a British Columbian local government authority incorporating 5 electoral areas and one municipality (the City of Powell River). We provide services such as land use planning, emergency preparedness and 911, solid waste management, regional parks and fire protection to our residents. The PRRD covers an area of approximately 5,000 sq km located on the west coast of British Columbia about 175 km north of Vancouver within the traditional territory of the Sliammon (Tla'amin) First Nation. We service a population of just under 20,000. Powell River's tranquil lakes, meandering coastlines and diverse mountain ranges offer unforgettable year-round recreation opportunities. Located within the boundaries of the PRRD are Texada, Savary and Lasqueti Islands, each with its own diverse communities and unique environmental and cultural flavours.
The Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) offers daily, direct service to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver with Air Canada, Central Mountain Air, Pacific Coastal and WestJet.
When you think of airports, normally items such as runways, airplanes, suitcases and control towers come to mind. However this summer at the Nanaimo Airport, trees have also been top of mind for the Nanaimo Airport Commission team.
