The British Columbia Blind Sports and Recreation Association, BCBSRA, was organized in October 1975 in order to send BC athletes to the 1976 National Championships and Selection Trials for the Olympics for the Physically Disabled (now called the Paralympics) in Toronto. The BC Blind Sports and Recreation Association is a not for profit association of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, or are blind and have additional disabilities; and their families and other supporters.
PADS' Mission is to Breed, Raise, Train and Place Assistance Dogs for persons with a physical disability or who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and to support these client/dog teams for the working life of the PADS' Assistance Dog. This service is available to anyone in Western Canada who would like the added independence of an Assistance Dog.
The mission of RCD is to empower people with disabilities to participate in the community to the level of their desires and abilities by providing information, resources, support and by increasing community awareness and accessibility. To facilitate or undertake projects, such as an information and resource centre, programs or services as may be required to achieve the charitable purposes of the Society. The need for specialized centralized information & resources in this area for people with disabilities was first identified by the RCD in the late 1980's.
