Barth's Cleaning Centre opened its doors to the public in April 1977. Prior to Barth's Orangeville opening, Jack Barth worked part time in his parents' dry cleaning business for 6 years, while going to school and 14 years full time following high school. His parents' business grew to 5 locations and 7 delivery routes employing over 50 employees. They were located in Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Aurora and Newmarket. When Jack's parents retired, their business was sold. Jack decided to start a smaller business more easily managed away from the hustle and bustle of a larger urban area. Jack found the location for his smaller business in November 1976 in Orangeville. Orangeville had a population of 12,000 people with a shortage of dry cleaning businesses that knew what the word service meant. It took until April 1977 for the building to be completed and the dry cleaning and coin laundry machinery to be purchased and installed.
