We rolled into Tobermory about an hour before close on a very rainy night. The owner was the only server in a moderately busy restaurant. Service was attentive despite the under-staffing (she had an ill worker), the bread obviously home made and yummy, and the salad was fresh and generous. Decor was dated (it would seriously benefit from RESTAURANT MAKEOVER) and the mene could have more healthful options, but overall it was a pleasant surprise given the limited options of the locale.

We have a saying about the weather in Tobermory 'If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes'!Our unique position on the globe (at 45 degrees latitude, or halfway between the equator and the north pole) and our proximity to large masses of water result in two major weather systems converging here. A southwest system brings warm, moist air. The other from the northwest carries dry, cold air. Unsettled weather is usually followed by another system pushing it out quickly.Other areas at this latitude experience extreme weather conditions - hot dry summers and cold, snowy winters. But due to our position between the two large bodies of water of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, we enjoy a much more moderate climate.

Circle Arts celebrates 45 years in 2014. The Circle Arts story began in 1969 when Gale Jensen - a professor of Social Sciences at the University of Michigan - persuaded six students of the Ontario College of Art (OCA) to build an art gallery and studio on land he owned in Tobermory, Ontario.The group stayed in the small town on the picturesque Bruce Peninsula for the summer, producing oil paintings, watercolours, wood block prints, sculptures, silk screens, textiles, jewelry and pottery. They returned to Toronto to finish their studies at the end of the summer, then moved to Tobermory permanently the following spring.
