We can see beautiful costumes, learn some history, and sample favourites from that country. This year, I decided to take on a few pavilions for the first week of Folklorama. The second week is my turn to volunteer with the Pearl of the Orient Philippine Pavilion at 364 Dufferin Avenue.Nayong Pilipino PavilionI always think of how lucky we are, as a community, to be given two weeks to share our culture with Winnipeg! My highlight is definitely the hospitality of the volunteers. My family and I enjoyed the cultural dances from Kayumanggi Philippines Performing Arts.South SudanBeing a newly established country, this was my first time attending this pavilion. If I could summarize my experience in one word, it would be 'passion.' The emcee, in particular, was knowledgeable and proud of his country's history and the performances they were presenting.

The Canadian Muslim Women's Institute Inc. (CMWI) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2006. CMWI is the first organization of its kind in Manitoba where Muslim women are both the leaders and participants of their own organization. The goal of the Institute is to promote and empower Muslim women and their families socially, economically and spiritually, within the spirit of Islamic principles. CMWI is run by an elected Board comprised of women of diverse cultures, ages and professions.
