A Word About LanguagePeople First is an organization that was formed because some of the people in our communities felt that they were not considered as people first. They felt that they were talked about, talked to, thought about, and treated according to the disabilities that others labelled them with.The founders of People First did not think this was fair. Over the years people have been called mentally handicapped, developmentally disabled, cognitively challenged, intellectually disabled, and many other labels.In order to avoid hurting peoples' feelings and to avoid using labels when we talk about the many different members of People First, we will use the term people who have been labelled.

Serena Manitoba was incorporated in 1977.We offer a healthy alternative for women's health, as well as for the environment. Couples consider the information learned in our classes to avoid pregnancy or to increase the likelihood of conception. Others are interested to learn more about their fertility. In all circumstances, whether coming off hormonal contraceptives, breastfeeding, after childbirth, pre-menopause, or having difficulty conceiving, the teaching offered by our certified teacher-couples is welcomed by our class participants.Our teacher-couples are trained in Manitoba and are accredited by Serena Canada.We have representation on the Serena Canada board. We submit provincial reports and affiliation fees to Serena Canada.

We are mandated by the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs to serve as a social service organization addressing transitional issues of First Nation citizens. Centrally located in Winnipeg's downtown, the EUTC assists more that 1700 individuals and families in the areas of housing, addictions, referrals, counseling, advocacy and other enhanced services. The influx of clients and the broad array of transitional issues indicate the growing demand and need for culturally relevant services by and for First Nation citizens.The EUTC serves as a hub of information and central location for clients seeking transitional support while living in and/or relocating to Winnipeg. The EUTC maintains an up-to-date inventory of resources, programs and services available to assist First Nation clients with day-to-day issues including housing, social assistance, addictions, resources for youth and services/programs in the areas of training/employment and education.
