In 1977, the Treaty Land Entitlement Committee of Manitoba Inc. was formed to begin negotiations on behalf of Manitoba First Nations to settle outstanding TLE's with Canada.It is important to note that the province of Manitoba was not involved in the negotiation of Treaties, or in the initial allocation of lands after the Treaties were signed. From the time Manitoba entered Confederation in 1870, the federal government retained control over unallocated Crown lands in the province, along with other natural resources. The Manitoba Natural Resources Transfer Agreement (MNRTA) of 1930, which formed part of the Constitution Act 1930, transferred control and administration of these resources and lands to Manitoba, but required the province to provide Canada with sufficient unoccupied Crown land to fulfill outstanding TLE obligations to Manitoba First Nations.

Community Futures Manitoba Inc. (CFM) is an association representing 16 Community Future organizations (CFs) established throughout rural and northern Manitoba. The Community Futures Manitoba Board of Directors is comprised of one representative from each of these organizations. Community Futures operates across rural and Northern Canada as a grassroots-driven program created to strengthen rural economies by enabling entrepreneurship and assisting in community economic development.There are 16 Community Futures organizations (CFs) established throughout rural and northern Manitoba. The goal of each CF is to assist the communities in their region to develop their economic potential. What is the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba?The Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba (TRCM) is a neutral body, created through a partnership between the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) and Canada with a mandate to strengthen, rebuild and enhance the Treaty relationship and mutual respect between First Nations and Manitobans as envisaged by the Treaty Parties.The TRCM will enhance and maintain positive intergovernmental relations and cooperation, conduct independent research that advances discussion on Treaty related issues, and facilitate public understanding of the importance and role of Treaty making in building a stronger and healthier nation.
