LinksDaily photos from the most beautiful, most repulsive city in the world through the photography of Bryan Scott.Welcome to the new Winnipeg Love Hate, now with more love and more hate. I first launched this website back in March 2008, when it was born out of a passion for three things: photography, architecture, and most importantly, Winnipeg. The feedback on the site has been overwhelmingly positive over the years, but still, I felt it was time for a bit of a freshening up. I hope you like the new look.I also hope that the photos presented here depict a Winnipeg that often goes unseen and unnoticed; a multi-layered, architecturally rich city that is more than just the snow and mosquitoes for which it is (sadly) most well-known.Prints are available through the print-on-demand website imagekind.com. Click Purchase Prints for more information. If you don't see the prints you're interested in, let me know and I will make them available as soon as possible. Prints are available in many different paper stocks.
RED RIVER HERITAGE FAIR Congratulations to the Grade 6 students who represented our school so well at the Red River Heritage Fair at the University of Winnipeg on May 1st. The students had a wonderful time observing the hundreds of amazing projects by grade 4 to 11 students from across Manitob,a participating in several hands-on workshops, interacting with the judges and answering their questions, and meeting students from across the province. Each year the grade 6 students participate in various fun and educational workshops. This year's workshops included: soap stone carving; making aboriginal leather necklaces called spirit pouches; an amazing scavenger hunt; and an interesting talk on The Untold Stories of Winnipeg. As well there was aboriginal drumming during the lunch hour and an Open House and Awards Ceremony in the evening. It was an action-packed day, one that will remain fondly in our memories! All of our students received medals for their wonderful projects. In addition, some of our students were fortunate to receive SPECIALTY AWARDS, as follows: CANADA'S HISTORY AWARD (Awarded to the Top 3 Projects in the entire fair!)
Welcome to HHRMHospitality House Refugee Ministry is a non-profit organization, and has for many years been Winnipeg's leading sponsor of refugees.Thousands have been sponsored from appalling refugee circumstances, into new hope and productive lives in Canada. They continue to flood into our city, and while caring families look after many, others must look to the support of Hospitality House to survive their first year here.Several parishes and individual donors have generously supported the work over the years, but the needs continue to be great, because the refugees keep arriving. This is Hospitality House, the refugee reception centre provided by St. John's Cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Rupert's Land, in Winnipeg. This is Micah House, home of the office of Hospitality House Refugee Ministry at 1039 Main Street in Winnipeg. Micah House is the Catholic Centre for Social Justice. Our office is provided by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Winnipeg and is just inside the big window on the second storey, beneath the cross on the roof. Please pray for the residents, staff and volunteers, board members, supporters, and thousands of refugee-clients of Hospitality House
House of the Risen Son Ministry started as more of a para church style ministry in 1993. It was started to disciple the community that was being reached by Bondslave Motorcycle Club, ( www.bondslavemc.com )Over the years it has grown and operated in different methods to accomplish this. Many of those who attend are bikers or at least of that culture but we continue to attract many who are not. Many are those who seek Jesus in a manner that is relevant to where they are at and do not want to feel that they are imposed upon. They want Jesus who is 'real' from people who are 'real'.The worship services to accommodate this biker type sub culture are held every Sunday at 7 pm in Zion Apostolic Church located at 305 Machray Ave. Winnipeg. Since 1999 Zion has rented space to us for many of the things we do.Every Sunday we have visitors. Every Sunday through the riding season the parking lot looks like a bike show. And every Sunday, you are welcome to join us. But be prepared to not find church as you expected it.
The history of the Immaculate Conception in Point Douglas goes back to the 1980's when pioneer Archbishop A. Taché established the parish on December 8, 1882. Up until then there was only one parish west of the Red River, St. Mary's.The first pastor of Immaculate was Father Lebret, O. M. I. He moved to Saskatchewan a year later and was replaced by a newly ordained priest from Montreal, Father Cherrier, who later became a Monsignor. He served the parish for over 40 years.
