Mature trees separate the holes, so you feel like you're by yourself on the course. The water is in play on three holes, and the wind is often a factor. A straight drive is needed on the second, 416 yards to the pin. There's a dogleg left on the third, and an optical illusion awaits you on the fifth. A large pond separates three tee decks from an elevated green on the spectacular signature hole number eight. Established in 1965, the South Port Golf Course is a scenic 9-hole layout that sprawls over 100 acres, minutes away from the beaches of Port Elgin and Southampton. Water hazards and neighbouring wetland areas are commonplace and come into play on five different occasions. The signature hole at South Port is the 361 yard, par 4, 6th hole. Off the tee, one must decide to carry the water hazard 200 yards away or lay up in front before approaching the small and gently sloping green. Out of bounds along the left side of the fairway and mature bush to the right convince most golfers that laying up makes the most sense. For those in search of a pleasurable round of golf while enjoying the summer activities offered in the Port Elgin/Southampton area, look no further than the South Port Golf Course.

E-Mail AddressWelcome to Calerin Golf ClubThis nine hole course, designed by Doug Carrick, is a real hidden treasure in the Niagara Escarpment. With two completely separate tee boxes, Calerin plays like an 18 hole course. Fairways are first class at this course, as are the greens. There is an ample smattering of oddly shaped sand traps to watch out for throughout the course.Good drives off the tee on the 8th hole and 9th will clear the bunkers and save you a few headaches. The hillside location and rolling terrain give the course both uphill and downhill fairways, making for a good, all-around challenge for any golfer. The sixth hole is the greatest challenge at Calerin. A long par four at 383 yards, it doglegs right to an elevated green. If you shave too much off the tee shot, the gain achieved in yardage will have you in a difficult position for your approach. The green is well guarded on the right hand side by trees and sand. The greens at Calerin are exceptionally well maintained, with varying degrees of undulation and speeds preventing gimmies for even the best putters.
