The personal care home on Burrows was first opened in 1972 and expanded in 1990 to meet growing demand.During the 1980s, Fred Douglas Society and Manitoba Housing partnered to create Fred Douglas Place, a life lease building on Vaughan Street. It opened in 1988.The redevelopment of four floors above the Vaughan Street YM-YWCA was completed in 1999. Fred Douglas Heritage House is a supportive housing complex for seniors.
