I've been to Darbar twice. The first time I had the lunch special with a beef curry (don't recall exactly what kind), and thought that it was bland, uninteresting, and it had no heat at all, surprising because I ordered it "hot"
The second time I was invited to dinner with a visiting relative. I was reluctant to agree to this restaurant due to my previous experience, but we went nonetheless.
This time, I ordered the lamb dansak, and was completely blown away. It was definitely among the best dishes I have ever eaten at a restaurant. The flavour was bold and complex but balanced, and with enough heat to make the dish exciting to eat. I had a taste of the other dishes at the table, which ranged from good to so-so, but my order was truly excellent.
Both times, the service was prompt and polite, and the staff was very attentive without being intrusive.
If all of the dishes on the menu were comparable to my last visit, I would not hesitate to give Darbar five stars for food. Unfortunately, many items are underperformers.
Overall, if you didn't like Darbar, it's worth another shot - you probably just ordered the wrong item the first time.

I've eaten in Many South Asian restaurants over the years, having lived in Vancouver and Toronto. This is one of the best South Asian restaurants, and definitely in my top 3 that I've eaten in (out of poss. 10-15). Their Chicken Korma is the best I've ever had, & other dishes worth mentioning is veggie curry, and their madras (chicken). Their lamb curry is also excellent. They use fresh ingredients, and you might pay a little more then say a "buffet" style in Toronto (ie 10.99 for all you can eat), but here's why : the chicken for example is white meat/chicken breast. That means a Big difference in costs, where many buffet style places & other cheap eats, ie in Toronto may use thighs etc. Know when you are comparing apples to apples. Staff are friendly and helpful! Highly recommend this place. Good, reasonable lunch specials during the week from 7.99 (veggie curry). Enjoy!

The people who run this restaurant are always so friendly! To top that off, the food is great. I really enjoy their palak paneer especially.
They're also great with accomodating tastes. I like my food spicy, while my other family members are not so keen on it. When I order spice levels all over the map, it's never screwed up. Always perfect for each person.
The flavours are great and I always look forward to a treat here when we have the time.

We usually do take outs on weekends but went their for lunch on weekday and thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn't look big buffet but wow had lots of varieties to eat and especially fresh nan and tandoori chicken. Not big on Indian desserts too sweet for me. Food is great we really enjoyed the lunch buffet and service is fast and courteous.

A takeaway goat roti is $9. I do not understand how anyone put $60 per person. If you are eating in, the lunch special of say boneless chicken and a pop, is going to run you about the same. If I eat in at lunch I usually get a boneless chicken roti and a pop and a double and a pop. About $11 plus the tip for excellent service.
This is my absolute favourite restaurant. I can agree that the location is not awesome but the food is wonderfully delicious. And plentiful.

I have been frequenting the Scarborough location of this restaurant for a few years now, and was excited when they opened a Pickering location, as I work in Scarborough, but live in Whitby. Awesome roti...and a few of my friends from "the islands" agree whole heartedly! The most tender, juicy and tasty chicken roti, you won't be dissappointed! Been to Zeeras several times over the last couple of years and have ordered different dishes every time, been impressed with each one. My last visit was the Chicken Vindaloo which was quite nice. Staff are very friendly. Lunch buffet was very good but very busy.
