History of 119 Sutherland AvenueThe former All People?s Sutherland Mission, 119 Sutherland Ave., has been serving the Point Douglas community for over 100 years as an educational facility. Designed by prominent architect J.H.G. Russell, the mission was opened in 1908 with the intent to create a multifunctional space for preaching, education, and recreation to meet the needs of new immigrants. MICEC has occupied 119 Sutherland Avenue since 1977 and took ownership in 1981. Since then we have continued to provide much needed services to the area. We recognize the historical significance of the building and are proud of the fact that in 2004 it was designated as an official Heritage Building. Our restoration of the building?s exterior has honoured its rich history as an educational facility and community landmark.
