When people think of piano lessons, many picture a disciplinarian teacher standing overhead, holding a ruler…ready to strike at the first possible mistake. While we’ve (thankfully) moved passed such torture for piano students, surprisingly the content of those very lessons still lingers within the piano education community. One of Merriam Music’s biggest and most obvious differences is that we focus on so much more than just right notes or exam scores.
We teach music in a ‘linguistic’ sense, meaning that we teach the grammar, vocabulary, and repertoire of the musical language. Then we combine an unmatched number of performance and ensemble music making opportunities so that those skills get used in a relevant, engaging way.
The philosophy of the Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance has always been to offer the very best in teaching staff and facilities to our students. This very impressive group of professionals is made complete with some of the most talented and sought-after pianists in the dance community.
ORC was built on the love of the game. It began in 1975 with a conversation between a group of local guys who loved tennis and wanted to play year round. Having growing families themselves, they recognized the need for a family centered tennis club in the area to service the expanding population of the Oakville/Mississauga region. It just so happened that this same group of guys were visionaries. By the early eighties, when Olivia Newton John's Let's Get Physical was number one on the billboard charts, ORC 's newly installed aerobics studios were filled with lycra clad members. And, as health and fitness trends have evolved, so has ORC. 35 years and several expansions and renovations later, many of our founding members are still actively involved in a club which has grown to become one of Canada's largest and most successful private family sports facilities.
We are a licensed program which serves to fill the gap between home and school for a community which is continually growing and often leaving families with
the dilemma of childcare.
We run after school clubs, such as drama, cooking, lego, dance troop, glee and fitness frenzy!
Our highly trained and certified faculty are enthusiastic about their classes and look forward to sharing their passion and knowledge with all their students.
