HomeHorsefly's HistoryHorsefly is a community rich in history, beginning at it's roots with the Cariboo Goldrush. Horsefly was the site of the first gold panned in the Cariboo in 1859 predating the Barkerville gold strike of 1862.Miners who stayed on after the rush northward towards Quesnel and Barkerville first settled the area. The new homesteaders mined small claims, trapped, ranched or logged.Today the village of Horsefly has a population of approximately 800 people. It is situated in the Cariboo Region of British Columbia, Canada and is a pleasant half hour drive from 150 Mile House. This is truly a beautiful region with many mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams. Current day Horsefly relies on the Tourism, Ranching and Logging Industries as its main sectors that keep a thriving population in the scenic Horsefly area. For information on current day Horsefly please visit Horsefly's website
