A graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers' College, she has also earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University, and a Masters in Education from Saint Mary's University. Karen has a wide range of experience in the school system. She was a school teacher in the town of Truro, an administrator at North River Elementary School, a Regional Supervisor with the Colchester East Hants District School Board, an Assistant Superintendent with the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, and an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Education, Acadia University and the University of Prince Edward Island.
