Welcome to West Heights Community School!West Heights Community School is located on the west side of Mission with a population of approximately 245. Our staff is committed to supporting our students. Differentiation of instruction, Buddy Reading program and collaboration between classes are only a few curriculum examples. Extracurricular activities that are offered include Running Club, Chess Club, Me to We, Floor Hockey, Basketball and Volleyball. Students also volunteer, with staff support, on the compost and recycling crews, as office monitors, and equipment sign out. All of this support contibutes to reaching our goals in the School Growth Plan.At West Heights, we are a welcoming community that is a central hub in the neighbourhood. The Ministry of Education program, Strong Start, is offered in our school for parents/caregivers with children aged 0 to 6 and we also offer after school care with the W.H.A.R.P. (West Heights After School Recreation Program). Our students are also able to participate in community programs offered after school such as community floor hockey, choir and music lessons (SPARKS) and Homework Club.
Founded by Cliff Power in 1998, Extreme Outreach Society began as a BBQ ministry to individuals with addictions, and has grown to include several outreach programs, all of which encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Participants can expect a positive, non-discriminatory environment where they are accepted, learn to build new relationships, learn about Jesus, and have lots of fun! Extreme Outreach Society is a local, non-profit ministry committed to improving the lives of children and families in the greater Victoria community. Our focus is children and families in need as well as the prevention of homelessness. We reach out 365 days a year to families and children from all walks of life in varied and unique ways.
The Hallmark Heritage Society Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at the James Bay New Horizons Centre, 234 Menzies Street starting at 7 pm. Guest speaker is Mike Sweet on the move of a building from 1082 Richmond Road to 1016 Pemberton Road and the resulting restoration.
The Richmond Delta Branch -Navy League of Canada is a non profit volunteer organization, serving youth, ages 9-18 , in the Richmond community since 1964. We build self respect and discipline through leadership and skills training for young citizens and immigrants to Canada. We have the highest ratio of competitive awards and test scores achieved by a Sea Cadet Corps nationally, as a result of the high level of officers and instructors training and teaching. We offer sailing, first aid, band, drill, seamanship, target shooting, drill, leadership and summer camp. Come and join us!
The 'Victoria Native Indian Housing Society' was incorporated on February 6, 1984 as a non-profit society. The name was changed to the M'akola Housing Society on April 5, 1988.The Society was originally established to provide safe, affordable housing for families of Aboriginal ancestry who were in core need of housing in urban centres on Vancouver Island. Since that time the Society and its mandate have expanded into what is now the M'akola Group of Societies.
