Welcome to West Heights Community School!West Heights Community School is located on the west side of Mission with a population of approximately 245. Our staff is committed to supporting our students. Differentiation of instruction, Buddy Reading program and collaboration between classes are only a few curriculum examples. Extracurricular activities that are offered include Running Club, Chess Club, Me to We, Floor Hockey, Basketball and Volleyball. Students also volunteer, with staff support, on the compost and recycling crews, as office monitors, and equipment sign out. All of this support contibutes to reaching our goals in the School Growth Plan.At West Heights, we are a welcoming community that is a central hub in the neighbourhood. The Ministry of Education program, Strong Start, is offered in our school for parents/caregivers with children aged 0 to 6 and we also offer after school care with the W.H.A.R.P. (West Heights After School Recreation Program). Our students are also able to participate in community programs offered after school such as community floor hockey, choir and music lessons (SPARKS) and Homework Club.
Peers is a non-profit society established by former sex workers and community supporters and is dedicated to the empowerment, education and support of sex workers, by working to improve their safety and working conditions, assisting those who desire to leave the sex industry, increasing public understanding and awareness of these issues, and promoting the experiential voice. Peers services are designed, developed and implemented by sex workers, in collaboration with non-sex workers who are committed to Peers core values. The services are based on the needs of sex workers and on a harm-reduction approach driven by each individual's needs.
