The Etobicoke Children's Centre was formed in September 1997 as a result of the merger between two complimentary organizations, Stothers Centre for Children and Families & The Etobicoke Centre for Children and Families. The founders were concerned Etobicoke parents and local service clubs who were committed to helping children and their families address children's mental health needs.The Etobicoke Children's Centre is a non-profit, charitable voluntary organization. We are fully accredited by Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO – www.kidsmentalhealth.ca). The Centre receives funding from the Province of Ontario (Ministry of Child and Youth Services and Ministry of Community and Social Services), The City of Toronto and through private donations.

Since 1990 when the Canadian Addison Society was founded, the membership has grown from 13 to about 150 members.The number of people with Addison's disease varies with surveys in different countries depending on how these surveys are done, but in the United States, between 6 and 11 out of every 100,000 people will be diagnosed with this disease. The statistics are probably the same in Canada. With this low prevalence of the disease, you may not have met anyone else who has this problem and it can be supportive to discuss your experience with others who have a similar problem.The primary purpose of our site is to offer information about Addison's Disease. Through our various support groups, we have contacts who may be able to provide information to the many questions a newly diagnosed Addisonian might have; as well as the opportunity of personal contact with somebody who has experienced some of the concerns associated with the disease. Reconnect began in 1981 as a project to serve discharged psychiatric patients in Etobicoke, following the closure of Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital in 1979. A Community based Day Treatment program, funded by the Community Mental Health Branch of the Ministry of Health, was established in early in 1984. Reconnect is governed by a Board of Directors which includes consumers, family members, mental health and business professionals, and other interested community members.Over the years, Reconnect has expanded significantly. We are proud of the services we provide and pleased to offer a wide range of diverse community based programs of support services that include Case Management, Assertive Community Support and group programs.Our staff includes the Executive Director, Program Directors and Managers, Administrative Support Staff, and a multidisciplinary staff team. We also provide training to university and community college students who are interested in mental health.
