Brenda Kaine has practiced family law since 1981, first in the Lower Mainland and since 2005, on Vancouver Island. In the ‘80s, her work was mostly carried out in Provincial Court where she represented the government in child protection cases, individuals involved in paternity cases and those dealing with extra provincial child support. Since the ‘90s, she has worked in all three levels of the B.C. courts; Provincial , Supreme and the Court of Appeal. Kirsten recognizes that the courtroom is not always the best way to resolve family law issues. As a family law mediator and having appeared as counsel at hundreds of mediations and arbitrations, she understands the value of alternative dispute resolution methods. She has also served as a facilitator for the “Parenting After Separation” course provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General for British Columbia. When issues cannot be resolved through mediation or arbitration, she has the experience to pursue cases through to trial.
