As you wander along Robson Street this is a popular Japanese restaurant that has been here for awhile. Reservations highly recommended. The assorted tempera was excellent, nicely battered, and we tried various appetizers such as gomae, liver, fried fish, clam soup, edaname, tofu, Saba shiroyaki, salmon belly. We ordered various sushi which was lovely plated and tasted pretty good and fresh. Also, Negitoro roll, and a few nigiri items. The service was excellent.

Their cheerful staff makes the contemporary local crowd feel at home in a dining room filled with West Coast-y interior. At the busy sushi bar, chefs create impressive platters of sashimi, occasionally apologizing for a less than perfect toro that is nonetheless much better quality than what we are used to consuming at many Robson sushi bars. A salad of spinach and enoki mushrooms is redolent of sesame oil, and yellowtail carpaccio is drizzled with red pepper-ponzu sauce. One can ask for his/her usual here, but Uni Tempura and the grilled sea bass with Saikyo miso are more interesting. Whimsical but traditional menu will keep many end up staying for late drinks.

We love trying out restaurants from different regions of the world along Lonsdale, which is a short walk from our home. We tried Kansai thinking it was just a cheap eats like so many other "cheap" Japanese dotting Vancouver. Fortunately this is a gem of a place for good eats and prices. The dinner boxes were excellent with decent portion of cook food and fresh fish. My favourite finds are sushi restaurants with spicy salmon rolls and this fits the spot!

My wife is a sushi expert. She has tried almost every sushi restaurant in the downtown vicinity on multiple occassions and quite often the staff will know who she is. That being said, I definitely trust her opinion on Sushi and right now this place is her favorite.
It is a small sit-down/takeout restaurant on Robson street and it is fairly new, and the sushi is fantastic. The salmon is always fresh and since they don't serve famred salmon it is always amazing. The miso soup is complimentary with a minimum $5 order and the staff are always pleasant. The only downside is they don't have any cooked food, it is purely sushi with some noodle soup options.

Not many restaurants open after 10pm on a Thursday for a late night bite along Robson. The service was average as there was a slight delay to order but the beer came prompt which kept us occupied until our grilled calamari and pork cheeks arrived along with the yakisoba. Pretty good in taste overall. The yakisoba was udon based which was not what I was expecting, and not much meat or vegetable but pretty good.

They have delicious Japanese dishes that are uncommon in Vancouver. Today I had the unagi don - barbecued eel - that was perfectly prepared and a generous portion. My partner had the okonomiyaki which Kuma is known for, and that was also delish. Modest place with an excellent chef and pleasant service.
