Part way through the week long ENDURrun 160KM stage race this past summer I started battling back spasms along with the distance. The pain was impairing my breathing and freedom of motion. After each stage, and in the one off day, Dr. Colin worked on my back to ensure I was ready for the next race day. i not only completed my fastest ENDURrun but ended it with a personal best marathon time to finish the week. I continued with a few more weeks of treatment, with both Colin and Dr. Erika the naturopath, which put an end to the spasms and let me enjoy the rest of my ultra racing season pain free. The regular practice of Iyengar yoga leads to optimal physical and mental health. It is named for B.K.S. Iyengar, of Pune, India, who developed, refined and shared this methodology.
It uses a precise, systematic approach whereby students learn a series of yoga postures in a well- planned order, and synchronize these postures with their breathing. These yoga postures help to exercise, strengthen, balance and cleanse every system of the body: musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, immune, digestive, nervous and respiratory. Students concentrate intently, drawing their attention inward. This concentration quiets and integrates their minds and bodies.
