A board of directors was elected and their first concern was finding a suitable place to hold their first annual Fall Fair.A local gentleman allowed the board to use his property free of charge in exchange for making some repairs to the building to make it suitable for the livestock animals and exhibits.In 1912, the Agricultural Society of Massey purchased 8 acres of estate land and for the past one hundred years, this is where the Massey Fair has been held, drawing crowds from across northern and central Ontario.
Sagamok First Nation is located on the north shore of Lake Huron. It is a beautiful community whose name means 'two points joining'. Sagamok's culture and language is Anishinabek and is made up of the Ojibwe, Odawa and Pottawatomi tribes. Also known as the Three Fires Peoples, the community members of Sagamok number well over 2000. A little over 50% of the membership lives on reserve, with the remainder living in urban locations. Sagamok is a place of rich stories, legends and history that derive from time immemorial. Once the summer camps of the original peoples who came down from Biscotasing, it is now the permanent home to many of those descendents. Sagamok is an ancestor based village that is known for its diversity, prosperity and growth.
Martin's country market, we are very happy to have products sold by mennonite family's in Massey. Our family owns a cottage in the Massey area and travels a great distance to enjoy our free time there. Martin and his wife have gone to great lengths to serve us well, once they even thawed pork chops so that our rushed first night with company would go off without a hitch.
