The North End Community Renewal Corporation (NECRC) was founded in 1998 by a coalition of Winnipeg organizations who were concerned about some of the trends in the north end of Winnipeg and who were aware of the good results that community development corporations in other parts of North American were achieving in revitalizing inner city communities. The NECRC was established to serve the community within the geographic area north of the CP tracks, south of Carruthers Ave., east of McPhillips Street and west of the Red River.The mandate of the corporation is to promote the social, economic and cultural renewal of the north end of Winnipeg. It does this by improving the quality and accessibility of housing, creating jobs, upgrading commercial and industrial areas, implementing employment development programs, improving the overall image of the community, and reducing crime in the community. The corporation provides co-ordination activities and a strategic focus for many of the community improvement activities taking place in the north end.NECRC is committed to the social, economic and cultural renewal of the North End of Winnipeg.NECRC defines its development goals through annual consultations and ongoing networking with North End residents and businesses

The Centre's Director/Curator programs all exhibitions and related or adjunct events (performances, readings, lectures, projects) with the input of an Advisory Panel. (IRCOM) is a non-profit organization that operates a transitional housing complex in downtown Winnipeg called IRCOM House Ellen. IRCOM House offers secure, affordable and clean apartments to newcomer families for up to 3 years after their arrival.In addition IRCOM provides onsite supports and services including an After-School Program for children and youth, An Asset Building Program for those interested in learning about money in the Canadian context and participating in a matched savings program as well as a Community Resource Program that connects community members with employment, education, and various health resources throughout Winnipeg. IRCOM also runs the Newcomer Literacy Initiative which consists of daily English as an Additional Language classes with free childcare available.IRCOM House is home to families from diverse cultural, educational, linguistic and professional backgrounds.

Annual ReportOur StoryThe Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Inc. was established in 1984 to reclaim Aboriginal people's inherent role and responsibility as the caregivers for Aboriginal children and families in Winnipeg.We are a community mandated, Aboriginal directed and supported human service organization, delivering children in care and community based programs and services to Aboriginal families.Today, with over fifty (50) programs, eleven (11) sites, and 200+ staff and volunteers, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre provides a valued local presence in key neighbourhoods where our community lives.All Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre programs and services are developed and operate within a philosophy that is embodied in the name of the center. The name Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata translates from Ojibway into the phrase 'we all work together to help one another'.
