Caelin Artworks is a studio gallery in Wetaskiwin owned by two artsy people: Colleen McGinnis (painter/writer) and Leon Strembitsky (photographer). The gallery has been operating since 1988 in a house that was built in 1912. They work where they live, and like it that way!
Leon's specialty has been black and white photography, but in the last few years he transitioned from shooting large format film, almost exclusively in black and white, to a digital slr which allows him to produce colour as well. His work contains strong compositional elements and lighting. Finding the unexpected gives him joy.
Colleen's favourite medium is Alkyd (a faster drying oil paint) followed closely by pencil and ink. Subject matter varies, but she gravitates more to florals and landscapes. Give her a big sky to paint with amazing Alberta cloud formations and she's a happy girl! When using words, she writes fiction and non-fiction, and is currently working on a series of picture books for young children.
