(Harlem on Queen)
After a weekend of dining at pretentious good-for-nothing restaurants (re: Spice Route) we decided to settle for Harlem, my bf's idea as the location of this place is easy to miss with so many other eateries surrounding it. We had the brunch/lunch menu.
The waitresses were very attentive. Served right away. Food was quite tasty, although the only negative part about it was that it came out a lukewarm. The catfish lafyette was delicious! Yam and yukon hash was good, but would've been better if served hot, as potatoes tend to get rubbery when it gets cold. The ribs were not bad either. There was a lot of food on the menu that I wanted to try today, so I'll definitely go back , maybe during dinner the next time.

A great meal with great service, we'll definitely be back! Huge portions and a nostalgic atmosphere make for a memorable time. The sweet potatoe fries are a delicious "upgrade" from the regular fries.

The Fran's tradition started over 70 years ago by Francis Deck. Francis was born in Buffalo, New York where his older brother Greg had started Deco Refreshments in 1918. Fran began openning out of town Deco locations. There were over 50 Deco locations in Buffalo alone. Fran and his wife Ellen Jane started Fran's in Toronto as a modest ten-stool diner at St.Clair and Yonge St in 1940, the couple's vision was one of serving unique high quality food throughout the whole day to their customers.
This bustling new tenant in the former People's Foods space favours country-rustic cuisine, which is another way of saying comfort food that's been kicked up a notch. Former Drake Hotel chef Anthony Rose turns out satisfying, substantial dishes for locals whose chatter provides cheerful background ambiance while you nosh. Think bread pudding with wild blueberries, pork fried rice, griddled brie cornbread, and a rich and popular marvel called the PLB melt (bacon, sausage, pickle, fried egg, fried onions and cherry jam). Seating is maximized in this cozy space with a shared-dining arrangement, and a hip, happy vibe permeates. As for lubricants, Rose and Sons has a sweet wine list and some snazzy cocktails, including the much-lauded bloody Caesar, served with a sour pickle and toasted kabanosy.
