The Salvation Army has served the community of Nanaimo since 1888, and The Salvation Army Thrift Stores have helped generate funds to support our wide range of social programs. Keep quality merchandise out of landfills by donating it to us. We also recycle 98% of our unusable goods.
United Way has worked to prevent social problems like child poverty, bullying and senior isolation in the Lower Mainland for over 80 years. Working with over 150 community partners, we fund about 450 programs each year to create a better future for children and seniors.

The roots of Fraserside Community Services extend back to 1972 when a small group of people formed a support group to help one another cope with, and overcome, personal challenges. Calling themselves Self Aid Never Ends (SANE), members believed that the most effective way to overcome personal difficulties was through self-help. With a government grant, the group developed its first community initiative - The Sapperton Thrift Store. Soon after, the group formed a non-profit society and opened an Achievement Center for people with developmental disabilities.
