Harold and Kathleen Leighton started H. Leighton Contracting Ltd. in 1975, with a single backhoe. They then purchased a single axle gravel truck and it was history from there. They went on to build the business through the 80’s and 90’s to the larger scale it is today. H. Leighton Contracting has done numerous high profile projects throughout the years. From the excavating & trail works for Simms Park, to the civil works for North Island College back in the 90’s. Harold also supplied the excavating works for both Mission and Aspen School, as well as Valley View School. More recently H. Leighton Contracting has completed numerous phases of residential subdivision work in both Courtenay and Comox, as well as the latest phase of the Casa Loma Retirement Village.

Bob Mortlock is the owner and general manager of Pacific Home Improvements. He commenced his construction career in 1970 as a carpenter in the family commercial construction company in Ontario. He eventually became vice-president and co-owner in 1978. The company specialized in large commercial projects (factories, warehouses, grocery chains) and institutional construction (hospitals, schools). During his time as VP Bob was responsible for several multi-million dollar projects and many commercial renovations. During his time in Ontario he was on the Board of Directors of the local construction exchange, past member of the Ontario General Contractors Association and past member of the Canadian Construction Association. Since his move to the Sunshine Coast he is past Director of the Sechelt Chamber of Commerce. His current time and efforts are devoted to Pacific Home Improvements.
