Reconnect began in 1981 as a project to serve discharged psychiatric patients in Etobicoke, following the closure of Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital in 1979. A Community based Day Treatment program, funded by the Community Mental Health Branch of the Ministry of Health, was established in early in 1984.
