Family owned and locally operated NOCO, founded by Reginald B. Newman in 1933, began by delivering coal to residential customers with its one-truck fleet. A few short years later, NOCO expanded by adding the delivery of heating oil to homes, and eventually expanded once again by delivering lubricants and fuels to commercial and industrial businesses. The one-truck fleet started by Mr. Newman has grown to over 165 trucks run by the third generation of Newman's. In 2001, Jim and Mike Newman were named President and Executive Vice President, respectively.
Our friendly staff makes sure that your visit to the farm is enjoyable. After you get directions and an orchard map at the front of the orchard, you simply drive through the farm to your favourite varieties. There is no admission fee. All the blocks of trees are well marked.
Pfenning's Organic Farm is a grower/packer/shipper of certified organic produce. More than just a farm, ours is a 'Quality of Life' business that takes a holistic approach to sustainability, and we live the organic concepts in our daily lives and business practices. Our farm is nestled in a curve of the Nith River just outside Baden, Ontario, offering us a peaceful setting in which to raise our children. We think 'local first' and focus on family and community building. From that starting point, we develop market relationships where mutual respect is the foundation. Our staff, including Jamaican migrant workers, are not only employees, but neighbours and friends. The vegetables we grow are packed on our farm and sold in stores around our region and across the province. We provide an unbroken chain of traceability and responsibility from field to fork, and we offer a reliable standard for our customers. While our focus is local production first, we also import off-season and tropical products to round out our line-up and enable us to offer quality product all year.
