On-line reviewers are effusive in their praise for this Little Italy love letter to simple, honest, handmade food, where everything is prepared with fresh ingredients and love. It's mostly Canadian comfort fare that tumbles from the kitchen onto grateful tongues at Woodlot, but there's enough here for non-meat-eaters to make it clear their interests were not an afterthought (a dedicated menu caters to vegetarians). Dishes like a foie gras crème brulée starter and russet potato gnocchi are unassuming and filled with flavour. Service is thoughtful and prompt. The ambiance here is equal parts elegant and hip. Woodlot takes reservations - another reason it's a standout on the Toronto restaurant scene. A charm-filled outdoor patio with a tree trunk for a table seals the deal.
Secure yourself a table at this Ossington Strip charmer well in advance, because word's gotten out about the sweet miracle that is a sticky rib platter or an elk slider at this place. A small, quirky space with a lively vibe, Union 72 excels on a range of fronts. Its ambiance is warm, its back patio is splendidly tree-canopied, its staff is attentive, and its high-end, French-inspired menu is a constantly changing parade of predominantly meat-tastic delights. Potato-sprung sides - either frites with herbed salt and aioli or a kind of warm redskin potato salad with yogurt - arrive for the whole table to tuck into. A marbletop bar embraces the open kitchen, so diners can keep an eye on chef Teo Paul and his clever team as they prepare house-made pasta, terrine and cheese plates, and to-die-for charcuterie.

Perhaps one of the finest meals I have ever eaten. The bread was hands down THE BEST I have ever had at any restaurant. I was very dubious since this was a recommendation from the hotel but I was very pleasantly surprised. The first waiter was not very friendly but the second one was just fine.Read more

Nestled in the atrium of Mies Van der Rohe's modernist TD Towers, Bymark reflects the dynamic energy of Toronto's bustling financial district. The bar is a mix of leather and wood, flooded with sunshine during the day and a dramatic mix of candlelight and cityscape at night. The glittering dining room impresses with Yabu Pushelberg's timeless design, both a focal point and a stage for a memorable meal. Bymark may be a few steps below ground, but its décor and service exceed expectations.
I loved the atmosphere. Will go back to have the tuna tartare. I had some beef thing on lettuce - it was incredibly bland and for desert I had the eclair which was stale and the cream was hardened. But the atmosphere is great and for Winterlicious they have a new menu so may check it out.Read more

The glow of comfortable tradition warms Allen's. Opened in 1987, the restaurant has achieved near-institutional status, as its bar, featuring 340 whiskies, over 100 VQA wines and 140 beers, and dining room are considered the very best of type. Customers travel from all over Canada, the U. S. and Europe to sample the unique offerings, but a solid core of local regulars maintains a consistent atmosphere of good cheer, conversation and welcome. The menu focuses on Ontario farmed and grown produce, with an urivalled presentation of naturally-raised or organic meats from area farmers. Breed, feed and age of every animal served is included on the menu. The wine cellar, with VQA selections from all regions of Ontario and British Columbia, serves as testament to Allen's commitment to Local Fare. In fine weather, there is no better spot in which to dine al fresco than Allen's backyard, where a dedicated chef cooks to order over charcoal a daily-changing menu of local specialties.
I first visited Allen's back in the 80's, not long after it opened, and I was instantly smitten. So much so, in fact that I moved into the neighbourhood! First I was a regular, then a nuisance, and finally a piece of furniture. I finally moved back to Markham in 1998, and cannot justify going anywhere south of Steeles Avenue without stopping into Allen's for lunch. The food is imaginative, superbly prepared, and so delicious, that even when I'm full, I often look at the menu again, just to see what I'll be ordering on my next visit!
And the patio? Don't get me started......Read more
