Mission Statement To provide emergency food items to Markham residents in need. The Food Bank was founded in 1984. Jean Lee was concerned about people going hungry in the town. The founding directors were Sheila Spinks and Phylis Tyrie. Gladys Keeble joined a few months later.
Founded in 1955, Community Living Mississauga is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to individuals who have an intellectual disability.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of people we support, family members and concerned members of the community.
Our vision is that all people will live in a state of dignity and respect, and share in all elements of living in a community which is welcoming, accepting and inclusive of all individuals. All people will have the freedom to make choices and decisions that enable them to achieve self-determination.
We believe that people who have an intellectual disability have a right to live in the community and to participate actively in community life.
Each individual, regardless of disability, should enjoy the full rights of citizenship and the full experience of membership in the community.
George Syme Community School's motto is 'Believing in achieving, together we make it happen!'As a school in the Model Schools for Inner City program, George Syme is committed to student achievement by building strong partnerships with families and the community. Recently celebrating its 100th Anniversary, the school has seen many changes. Now a vibrant open concept school, located near Jane and St. Clair Avenue West, George Syme hosts a French Immersion program. Its diversity is seen and heard in the halls and on the playground as students, parents and staff speak in over 30 languages. We strive to deliver curriculum through units of study where students see themselves as agents of change. George Syme is the hub of the community offering many programs for students and parents during and beyond the school day.
