Who We AreOur mission: To bring hope and a future through Christ to youth and their families in the inner city.Inner City Youth Alive (ICYA) is located in the North End of Winnipeg, which is one of the poorest and underserved area in Winnipeg and Canada. ICYA provides a safe, active and nurturing environment for children and youth many of whom experience poverty, abuse and neglect.ICYA engages local kids by offering quality programs through which relationships grow. These supportive relationships play a vital role in the lives of hundreds who are at risk, providing hope, inspiration, mentorship and a strong sense of the Heavenly Father's desire to be in relationship with us. These essential programs empower children and youth to grow and develop into confident individuals who are better equipped to deal with the harsh realities that they face daily._____Our HistoryInner City Youth Alive was founded in 1986 with the vision of Mark Friesen and Kent Dueck. Their vision was to make a difference in the lives of our inner city youth by sharing the love of Christ with them.
Collective bargaining, pay on time, sick leave. Can you imagine a public sector employer that no longer cares about these things? Neither can we. Which is why the federal Conservatives' proposed changes to these and more should concern all of us. Whether it's bargaining better salaries and benefits for members, defending member grievances or advocating for better public policies, unions like PIPSC matter to you.We would like to update you on our new member engagement initiative, which is intended to help us work 'Better Together' and take up the difficult challenges we face.
The Manitoba federation of Labour is the province's senior central labour body body, chartered by the Canadian Labour Congress in 1956 to represent the interests of CLC affiliated unions in Manitoba.
Our affiliates have membership in the private and public sector, including the Manufacturing sector, government offices, retail stores, hospitals, schools the natural resources sector, tourism, agriculture, transportation, and many others.
A major role of the MFL is to provide a forum for our affiliates to develop consensus decisions on common issues and speak for our affiliates in dealing with the provincial government, the business sector and with community groups. We coordinate the appointment of union representatives on government boards and commissions to ensure that the legitimate views of workers are put forward. We lobby government for progressive legislation and policies that will benefit working people and against polices that will hurt them.
