They felt that they were talked about, talked to, thought about, and treated according to the disabilities that others labelled them with.The founders of People First did not think this was fair. Over the years people have been called mentally handicapped, developmentally disabled, cognitively challenged, intellectually disabled, and many other labels.In order to avoid hurting peoples' feelings and to avoid using labels when we talk about the many different members of People First, we will use the term people who have been labelled.

Couples consider the information learned in our classes to avoid pregnancy or to increase the likelihood of conception. Others are interested to learn more about their fertility. In all circumstances, whether coming off hormonal contraceptives, breastfeeding, after childbirth, pre-menopause, or having difficulty conceiving, the teaching offered by our certified teacher-couples is welcomed by our class participants.Our teacher-couples are trained in Manitoba and are accredited by Serena Canada.We have representation on the Serena Canada board. We submit provincial reports and affiliation fees to Serena Canada.
