In the mid/late sixties a number of new Irish immigrants arrived in Winnipeg. They came from Dublin and pretty well every county of Ireland. While settling into their new lives in Canada they still felt a need to get together and celebrate their heritage and some of the social interconnection that they had with family and friends back home. Thus the Irish Association of Manitoba was formed in 1972. The founding president was Aiden O'Brien. Since then the Association has become a centre for not only those who started it but immigrants from Ireland. The founders also wanted an outlet so that they could pass their culture along to the following generations. The founding members were all committed to a place for all Irish to meet and socialise. They founded the club on the basis of non-political, non-sectarian and not-for-profit. There was a strong desire to avoid importing troubles and disharmony being experienced in Ireland at that time. The club then initiated a number of groups and activities.

Isaiah 44:3 God's desire is to throw open the Floodgates of heaven and release His fullness on the earth. Gates in the Bible were very significant. Seven countries in three daysBy Judianne JaymeWINNIPEG - Folklorama is the celebration of nations. It provides us the unique ability to travel within a two-week time frame, all in convenient venues within one great city! We can see beautiful costumes, learn some history, and sample favourites from that country. This year, I decided to take on a few pavilions for the first week of Folklorama. The second week is my turn to volunteer with the Pearl of the Orient Philippine Pavilion at 364 Dufferin Avenue.Nayong Pilipino PavilionI always think of how lucky we are, as a community, to be given two weeks to share our culture with Winnipeg! My highlight is definitely the hospitality of the volunteers. My family and I enjoyed the cultural dances from Kayumanggi Philippines Performing Arts.South SudanBeing a newly established country, this was my first time attending this pavilion. If I could summarize my experience in one word, it would be 'passion.' The emcee, in particular, was knowledgeable and proud of his country's history and the performances they were presenting.
