The passion for speed and performance that characterizes Speedway Motors has roots more than five decades deep back to the 1940s when the dealership's founder, Bruce Passmore, mortgaged everything he had to purchase the old Langford race track. Bruce's Langford Speedway became the best sprint track in Western Canada. It was the green flag for a string of successes to follow for the daring entrepreneur. In 1952, Bruce opened Speedway Auto Sales, a used car lot in Victoria. The next year a Volkswagen rep dropped by and Bruce got the Bug. Once again he put it all on the line, investing everything he had in 10 VWs and a one-car showroom at Yates and Quadra. In 1955, Porsche was added to the Speedway stable and by 1958, the company had moved to Yates and Vancouver and secured a Porsche franchise. Speedway grew through the 1960s and reached a singular plateau in 1967 when Audi joined the Speedway/Passmore family. The dealership became the only one in Canada to have Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi under one roof. During this period, Bruce's son Roy - who had not fallen far from the family tree - had been racing his Love Bug and selling cars in Vancouver. By 1971, Roy decided it was time to come home and he returned to Victoria to join the family business. Speedway moved to its current location at 3329 Douglas Street in 1985 and its founder, Bruce, was inducted into the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1989. Indeed, his legacy of racing and performance has never been forgotten. Fifty-five years since Bruce Passmore risked it all to buy his first 10 shiny Volkswagens, Speedway continues to take the checkered flag as an outstanding, family-rooted Vancouver Island dealership.
For more than 27 Years, I've been giving top notch advise and direction in the sale and purchase of residential properties including: single family dwellings, condos, townhouses, leaseholds, lots, and bare-land stratas. I particularily specialize in helping empty nesters make the critical decisions needed in order to successfully transition from their large home to the property type and location that's uniquely best for them. For example: K and D had a nice family house. But, the children had left home, the yard work wasn't how they wanted to spend their time and they were nearing retirement. Through a series of questions, guided discussions, and visits to potential properties, I helped them discover the best location and type of property they could move into that would bring them the greatest happiness and peace of mind.

We called on Friday to make an appointment for the next day, Saturday. However, Saturday . started out very badly. The person who made the appointment didn't know there was limited service on Saturdays and the work we needed may not be possible. This was made worse by the fact we travelled by ferry to get here. All is well that ends well, however. Alex somehow got the repairs done for us. He turned an unhappy customer into a happy one and we will come back....maybe not on a Saturday. Thank youRead more

Big Brothers of Victoria has been creating friendships since 1969 and Big Sisters came to the region in 1970. The two groups set a national precedent by amalgamating in 1977.Later partnered as the only two amalgamated BBBS agencies in Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dartmouth/Halifax, were advocates at both the provincial and national levels for a process to allow for combined Big Brothers and Big Sisters agencies.During the late 1970's until today, the amalgamation of agencies has continued. As a result of encouragement at the provincial level, over 80% of BC agencies have amalgamated. Across Canada, the number of combined agencies averages closer to 40%, but a major breakthrough occurred in 1985 with the formation of a working association between Big Brothers of Canada and a major support group in the Big Sisters network, Big Sisters of Ontario. In 2008, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria served more than 630 children in schools and communities across Greater Victoria. In 2010, more than 600 local children and youth have reached out to Big Brothers Big Sisters to ask for a mentor. With more than 35 years of experience, we know that kids need help to build confidence, resiliency and self-esteem, to be engaged in positive risk-taking and learning, and to be introduced to ideas, activities, skills, and tools that will help them succeed in school, at home, and in our community. We recruit, assess, and train volunteer mentors who meet weekly for a minimum of one-year with a child or youth either at a designated school or at an agreed upon destination in the community. We closely monitor the child and volunteer matches to ensure that goals and needs are being met, and that supports and resources are provided. You don't have to change your life to help change the life of a local child or youth. Participate, Volunteer, or Donate to help a child today! Our Mission Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria positively affects our community by providing mentoring programs for children and youth, which enhance their sense of belonging, self-worth, resiliency and capacity to make healthy, well-informed choices. Our Vision Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria envisions a future where the organization provides sustainable quality mentoring experiences for every child or youth who expresses a desire to have a mentor that starts within 2 months of the request and has an impact that lasts a lifetime.
