This year, Luna Aveda Concept Salon celebrates its 20th anniversary as one of the first green salons, in Canada.Established by Elizabeth Mincey in 1989, Luna Salon's seed birth actually began around her childhood dinner table, where the environmental dangers of pesticide use and conserving fossil fuels were discussed. A love of art, fashion and beauty, led Elizabeth into the salon industry. Fed up with the chemicals in the salon environment, Elizabeth opened Luna. Attracted to the green lifestyle philosophy, triple bottom line approach to business, and environmental mission that a company called Aveda was practicing, Elizabeth signed on as an Aveda Concept Salon. Several years later, in order to recognize her social and environmental achievements, Aveda awarded Elizabeth their One World Award for Humanitarian Activities . Elizabeth continued on with her Aveda fever and became one of four Canadians selected to Aveda's elite Purefessional program. Today, Elizabeth and her extraordinary team of Aveda trained stylists continue to encourage and remind us to base our purchasing decisions on a product's footprint, which is the journey it takes from the soil to the bottle, that the manufacturing process create positive social partnerships with communities who source the ingredients, and finally, that there can be a commitment to product research and development which grows above and beyond our environmental imagination.
