Martial Arts Kids & Teens program offers a strong foundation in learning the fundamental martial art techniques that combine traditional Karate, Kyokushin Karate, sport Karate kickboxing, wrestling with elements of Judo. The classes are structured to teach children and adolescents the art of self-defense, to bring their self-confidence up and to improve their general fitness. The Martial Arts program is based on ethical principles such as respect, self-discipline, focus and self-control while teaching kids and teenagers how to stand up for themselves in non-belligerent way. The program is designed to improve students' flexibility and concentration. Learning Martial Arts should be fun especially for our youngsters!
The CDMF was started in 1953 on the suggestion of Beryl MacLeod (Founder). At that time the students were participating in the Kiwanis Festival in Vancouver. The parents, children and teachers were weary of driving or taking the train all the way into the city and back, often returning late at night. Beryl suggested, 'Let's put Port Coquitlam on the map and start our own festival'.
