HVCCHeritage Victoria Community CentreHeritage Victoria Community Centre has been a vital part of our community for more than 25 years at our present location. The goal of the centre and all those who volunteer so much of their time is to provide a safe and fun environment for all members of the community. We have various programs for all age groups from babies to seniors.One of our primary goals is to target at risk youth and to that end this past summer we offered a drop in centre for the very first time. As with anything new there were some growing pains but the program was well received by the community and many children attended.We are fortunate to have a wonderful core of volunteers at Heritage who take on the task of keeping the centre and our various programs operating. RED RIVER HERITAGE FAIR Congratulations to the Grade 6 students who represented our school so well at the Red River Heritage Fair at the University of Winnipeg on May 1st. The students had a wonderful time observing the hundreds of amazing projects by grade 4 to 11 students from across Manitob,a participating in several hands-on workshops, interacting with the judges and answering their questions, and meeting students from across the province.Each year the grade 6 students participate in various fun and educational workshops. This year's workshops included: soap stone carving; making aboriginal leather necklaces called spirit pouches; an amazing scavenger hunt; and an interesting talk on The Untold Stories of Winnipeg. As well there was aboriginal drumming during the lunch hour and an Open House and Awards Ceremony in the evening. It was an action-packed day, one that will remain fondly in our memories! All of our students received medals for their wonderful projects.In addition, some of our students were fortunate to receive SPECIALTY AWARDS, as follows: CANADA'S HISTORY AWARD (Awarded to the Top 3 Projects in the entire fair!)

The Centre's Director/Curator programs all exhibitions and related or adjunct events (performances, readings, lectures, projects) with the input of an Advisory Panel. One slot each year is reserved for exhibition proposals brought to the attention of the Director/Curator through the Centre's open submission policy.
