Abbotsford Montessori's curriculum focuses on six areas Practical Life: Children learn how to tie their shoes and put on their coats, prepare snacks, go to the bathroom without help, and clean up after themselves. Sensory awareness education: Exercises make sure children use all five senses to learn Language arts: Children are encouraged to express themselves verbally and are taught to trace and recognize letters as a precursor to learning reading, spelling, grammar and handwriting skills. Mathematics and geometry: Children learn about numbers through hands-on learning using concrete materials Cultural subjects: Children learn about other countries(geography), animals(zoology), time, history, music, movement, science, and art. Socialization: Children learn about relationships and cooperative activities through parties, special events like Mothers Day Tea and the Fathers Day Woodwork Project.
Motto: Learning to Love Learning.
Working with your child's homework, focus is placed on developing understanding in problem-solving and not on just getting an answer. Students will have their thinking appreciated and their work supported. Learning will become more meaningful because your child will build a relationship with his or her studies. The personal attention is the key. The focus is placed on completing school work assignments, reviewing work done in class (to ensure for accuracy and understanding), and on preparing for tests.
Improvement can begin immediately. There is no rush to complete exercises unrelated to your children's school work. The Scholar's Quill helps to support the effort needed to complete school work. The goal of tutoring is help build a relationship between the student and their learning. The motto is Learning to Love Learning.
