I have been a practicing Artist in the community of Calgary, for the past 35 years. Over these years, I have had the opportunity to do set designs for public school productions, and private community theatre. My work has been displayed on periodical covers, and I have been commissioned to do posters, book covers and a CD cover. My personal work is colorful, and dramatic, with an International flavor. Studying at the University of Calgary, I completed a BFA with a major in Painting and a B. Ed with a major in Secondary Art.
Darcy was born in Alberta, Canada and spent her early childhood on a farm west of Granum in southern Alberta.
With Darcy’s farm background it is not surprising that her primary focus is western art. She finds inspiration at brandings, cattle drives, rodeos and sometimes in a field at the side of the highway. She sees the animals, everyday activities and gear of the working cowboy as unique and feels there is a story in every painting.
Darcy loves to depict people and animals but horses are her particular favourite. She works in oils, pastels, graphite and charcoal.
For a number of years her pieces have been juried in the Calgary Stampede Western Showcase. In 2016 her work was juried into the America’s Horse in Art Show and Sale in the AQHA Hall of Fame and Museum in Amarillo, Texas. Her work can be found in the Parks Canada collection and private collections in Canada, the United States and New Zealand.
