The community employs a fulltime Public Works Employee, a fulltime Community Administrative Officer, a certified parttime Water Operator, a Community Constable, a parttime Recreation Director, and a Rink Operator. Volunteer Fire DepartmentWaterhen has its own volunteer Fire Department. Approximately 20 volunteer Fire Fighters are with the department, who do ongoing training twice monthly under the direction of Fire Chief John Mark Taylor.Waterhen currently owns 1 fire truck, and 1 rescue and water tanker truck.

To the southwest, the community is bordered by the rural municipality of Mountain. Camperville is about 37 km east by road from Cowan, and 51 km north of Winnipegosis.
