Scout Magazine – launched in late 2008 by local writers/photographers Andrew Morrison and Michelle Sproule – is Vancouver's leading food and culture website. Its main objective has been the same from the start: to 'scout out' and promote the things that make Vancouver such a sweet place to be. It does this with an emphasis on the city's independent spirit to foster a sense of connectedness within and between our communities, and to introduce our readers to the people who grow and cook our food, play the raddest tunes in our better venues, create our most interesting art, and design everything from what we wear to the spaces we inhabit.
Originating as a carnival-style marketplace which opened for Expo '86 Vancouver, Lonsdale Quay Market has developed into a diverse, multi-use community anchor in the Lower Lonsdale area. The vision of Lonsdale Quay Market is to provide a truly unique retail market experience, while being an active partner within the community, and a destination gathering place on the North Shore.
Sharing the common language of good food is what binds us all together - within families, between friends and across communities. At Terra Breads, sharing and connecting with our customers is what motivates us to work every day to create and re-create fresh, slow-rise artisan breads, delectable rustic pastries and delicious small meals.
Everything is made in house from scratch by a team of French from France bakers. We are pastry bakers. We use organic local fruits and veggies whenever possible. We are always working on improving our recipes and customer service. We believe in quality over quantity. We don't like food to go to waste so we thank you for your understanding when our display is not fully stocked at the end of the day. That's the price to pay for fresh products.
Trafiq on Main is a chic, licensed café where morning and afternoon bakery temptations are served alongside great tasting coffee and tea. Whether it's a sumptuous pastry or a hearty sandwich made with one of our amazing breads, the café menu offers a little something irresistible for everyone.
Welcome to Fratelli's! We first opened our doors in 1997, and since then we've become an award-winning Vancouver-based bakery with a reputation for making delicious treats with a smile! All of our recipes are original and all of our ingredients are fresh. As a result, we've got the best Italian pastries, breads, cookies, cupcakes, biscotti, and cakes in town. (Well, that's what our customers tell us anyway! And we're inclined to believe them.), Drop by our bakery on Commercial Drive to see (and taste) for yourself what the fuss is all about. You can come in for a sweet treat and a coffee, or to order a specialty cake for an upcoming celebration! Whatever your sweet tooth desires, we have it. That's our promise.
Tung Hing's BBQ pork bun today tastes exactly the way that it did 20 years ago. According to the lunar calendar, the Mooncake Festival is celebrated every year on the 15th day of the 8th month, during the mid-autumn season when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Children play with lanterns that resemble the full moon and enjoy pastries known as Mooncakes. Ancient times, mooncakes were made simply by lard and plain red bean paste, all of which were the only affordable ingredients. Today, mooncakes have adapted to accommodate a diversity of preferences.
