SSG is a pioneering, federally-incorporated workers cooperative created specifically to develop solutions to societal issues using a holistic sustainability lens. SSG is at the forefront of sustainability in Canada working with leading projects in all sectors. The following examples highlight the breadth of our experience:
The Membership: There are over 200 members which include families and seniors. It is multi-cultural at City Gate with languages such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Tagalog, Croatian, Serbian, Romanian, French, Japanese, and English, being spoken.
From the outside, a housing co-op looks like the other homes in the neighbourhood. It can be a new apartment building, a row of townhouses or a charming old triplex. What makes it different is not bricks and mortar, but the way its residents share the responsibilities and control of their homes.
Marine Court Housing Co-operative offers a welcoming, inclusive 54-unit affordable housing community in Marpole, Vancouver, established in 1984. Their mission is to foster diversity, sustainability, and mutual respect while providing long-term, accessible living options on unceded Indigenous territories.
