Our mission is to provide our students with a solid foundation to foster their passion for dance. Our curriculum provides a wide variety of dance instruction for pre-schoolers, school-age children, teens and adults. Collectively, our teachers offer a professional and eclectic expertise in all aspects of dance at every level of experience from the beginner to the advanced student in the performing arts. Dance education is not simply technique. A student's dance experience both creates and enhances self-esteem, confidence, discipline and a sense of purpose-skills that last a lifetime.
The mission of the Crimson Coast Dance Society is to develop and support contemporary dance creations, productions, performances and educational opportunities at both grass roots and professional levels in Central Vancouver Island. Based in the City of Nanaimo, the principal objectives are to create a place for professional dance and to support the creative, performance and production pursuits of artistic director Holly Bright. The Society is committed to raising the profile of dance, developing dance audiences outside the BC Lower Mainland and creating performance and teaching opportunities for professional dance artists in the growing cultural community in Nanaimo. For those who have not yet been able to visit the studio, we are a professional dance instruction studio offering lessons in ballet, pointe, modern, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, musical theatre, stretch and strength, Pilates, flamenco, and belly dancing. Our teachers are certified by the Royal Academy of Dance, the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, and/or the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association. Our studio is located in downtown Nanaimo in a heritage building. We have three large studios including a grand ballroom, a comfortable lobby for our student's parents, many change rooms, and a homework area for our older students. Please feel free to drop in and take a tour.
The dance school was established in 1976 by Dolores Kirkwood. Carole and Lindsay Martyn bought the studio in 1990 and have continued providing dance instruction at the high standards set by the founder. In 2004, they received the City of Nanaimo Excellence in Culture Award for the dedicated work they have done with the children in the community and the quality of service they continue to provide. We are proud of the members of our faculty who were once dancers themselves and are now highly qualified teachers, who offer experience and expertise.
