The distillery was founded in 1974 and originally operated under the name 'Sunnyvale'.  In 1984, it was renamed 'Highwood Distillers' after the famous river and region that surrounds the distillery in the foothills of Western Canada's beautiful Rocky Moun

When Lora and Kevin Goodwin first began growing and selling organic strawberries and vegetables in 1998, they had no idea that they would one day produce handcrafted artisan spirits. As they worked the land, they experienced first hand the importance of supporting local farms.

Urban Distilleries is the oldest and largest craft distillery in the Okanagan. We are a small batch micro-distillery that produces ultra-premium hand-made Gins, Vodkas & Whisky including the signature 'Spirit Bear' line. At Urban Distilleries, each batch is hand crafted in Artesian copper stills from premium Okanagan grains,fruit and only the best glacier water from the Kootenays.
