A little bit about me, I am the owner/operator of West Coast Weddings and Events and would like to introduce you to a couple of small communities here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island called Tofino and Ucluelet. I came to Tofino in 1987 from my native land Scotland. I immediately fell in love with the pristine beaches, majestic snow-capped mountains, and most of all, the friendliness of the locals, welcoming me into their community. I have since worn many hats in the hospitality/tourism business, but my heart lies with making others feel the magic here. Pacific Rim Hospice Society provides care and support for individuals and families facing life-threatening illness, death and bereavement.Hospice volunteers and counsellors provide emotional care for the dying, the bereaved and those facing life threatening illness.Supported by a board of directors permanent part-time staff and 20 volunteers provide services to people living in Ucluelet, Tofino and the neighbouring First Nations communities.

The Port Alberni Friendship Center, established in the mid-1960s, is one of the more than 119 friendship centres across Canada and 25 in BC, with a mandate of providing services for urban Aboriginals. The services presently provided at our center are counselling, recreation programs, legal help, some public health services, social events, crafts and cultural events, with a general drop-in atmosphere.The Friendship Center is a non-profit society made up of individual members, governed by a board, which is elected from the membership at large, and administered by an executive director, and a staff of up to 36 which includes temporary project staff of 4-15 depending on the season. The Friendship Center's core budget is funded by Heritage Canada and administered by the National Association of Friendship Centres {NAFC} and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC). Other programs are funded by individual agencies with a focus on that particular subject area.
