A FMC Public Health Learning Tools Challenge Award Winners AnnouncedNearly 100 healthcare professional learners from across Canada participated in the AFMC Public Health Learning Tools Challenge to create learning / teaching tools on public health topics that will be used to enhance their education. A panel of judges including public health physicians, medical educators, students and residents selected the 13 award winners. Financial support was provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada.A national Working Group will be consolidating, adapting / translating the tools, and considering how they might be further developed and disseminated.

In 2007 the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced the creation of Nurse Practitioner Led Clinics. Ontario's 26 Nurse Practitioner Led Clinics are located in the following twenty-four communities: Barrie, Belle River Township of Lakeshore, Belleville, Capreol, Essex, French River, Huntsville, Ingersoll, Kitchener/Cambridge, London, Niagara Falls, North Bay, Oro Station, Oshawa, Peterborough, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Marie, Scarborough, South Glengarry, Smith Falls, Sudbury, Sutton, Thessalon, Thunder Bay and Toronto. Through a collaborative practice approach which includes Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, collaborating family physicians, and other health care professionals, Nurse Practitioners in Nurse Practitioner Led Clinics provide comprehensive, accessible, and coordinated family health care services to individuals and families who prior to joining the Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic, did not have access to a primary care provider (i. e. unattached patients). Nurse Practitioner Led Clinics improve the quality of primary care in their communities by providing well person care, health promotion, disease prevention, chronic disease management, and care co-ordination for their registered patients
