The IWA was founded as the International Woodworkers of America in 1937 when it was a union that represented loggers and millworkers in Canada and the United States. On September 1, 2004, I.W.A. Canada merged with the United Steel workers of America and now in our region, we are known as United Steelworkers, Local 1-424. Our office is opened Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Some Business Agents service various out of town lines and may not be in the office at all times, best to call ahead to make sure. Toll Free 800-565-36419
The Local came into existence as a result of a merger between Locals 2000 and 777. The membership of both locals voted to accept merger at meetings held throughout August of 2001 and the process was finalized with the creation of Local 247 on January 1, 2002.
